How I can help you

I have 25 years of experience working in the consumer products, telecommunications and bioscience industries. I’m highly experienced in mechanical design from concept through to manufacture, and can design for a wide variety of manufacturing process and production volumes. Below are some of the main services I offer, but should you require anything that’s not shown here please ask.

Concept design & visuals

If you have an idea for a product or component I can assist you in the first steps of turning them into a reality. I can provide anything from suggestions, advice and ideas to concept generation. Sketches, 3D CAD models or even photorealistic renderings are all possible.

Design for Manufacture (DFM) Design for Assembly (DFA)

Optimisation of parts and assemblies for mass production. Detail design, engineering drawings and tolerancing. I can design for many manufacturing processes especially injection moulding, die-casting, sheet metal & CNC machining.

3D CAD modelling & drawings

I use SolidWorks to produce 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies. I can use these to generate engineering drawings. Whether you need modifications to existing parts or a new design from scratch I can help. Need new 3D models of legacy parts? Get in touch!

Prototype design

If you need a physical prototype I can assist you by designing it, then getting it made. This can be from a simple “Proof of Concept” model, to a full-on representation of a mass produced product.

Cost reduction and optimisation

I can help save you money. This may involve redesigning or optimising existing parts, using alternative manufacturing processes, or investigating alternatives to existing bought-in components.

Mechanical Testing and approvals

I can help with mechanical testing and thermal testing. If you need component approval I can also mechanically inspect parts and assemblies to ensure that they’re within spec.

BoM creation and costings

I can create detailed Bills of Materials for your product and estimate or obtain costings to ensure that you know exactly what your mechanical parts will cost you.

Supplier management

Need someone to liaise with suppliers / manufacturers and get things done? Need to find a suitable manufacturer? I am also available for foreign travel if necessary.

Technical illustration

Using a combination of SolidWorks and Adobe Illustrator I can create high quality technical illustrations or diagrams for promotional or instructional purposes.

Hi, I’m Gareth Weeks and I’m a Cambridge-based mechanical design engineer with 25 years of experience. I have worked on a vast variety of projects over the years including consumer products, telecommunications equipment and laboratory instrumentation. I hold a BSc(HONS) in Product Design, and a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.I’m passionate about mechanical design and thoroughly enjoy all aspects of the design process from concept through to manufacture.
